Abstract: |
Sustainable design and environmental solutions are crucial to be taught to architectural students in order to train them to deal with the environmental challenges in all their projects. Blockhood is a neighborhood –building simulation tool which is a serious game that can teach the player how to create sustainable neighborhoods composed of tiny different blocks that have certain inputs and outputs, which must be well balanced in order to avoid the decay of the block. This paper reports on an experiment conducted on architectural design students to test the ability of designing and simulating sustainable buildings using Blockhood game to design a sustainable mixed-use building in the “Urban Design and Housing 2” course offered for level five students in Future University in Egypt. The results are evaluated through the game's analysis tool and the achievements leaderboard. An online questionnaire is conducted to evaluate the influence of the game on their perception of sustainable design and their future intentions towards using the tool as an aid in their future designs. |
